[3 ACT] Will they make it?

Act 1

LEGO has recently opened a website called LEGO Ideas in which anyone can submit and/or support new design ideas for the toy company to produce. In order to be accepted by LEGO and subsequently produced and sent into stores as an official LEGO set, the projects have to reach 10k positive votes from other users. Go take a look!

The projects in the picture are among the most supported and have, at the moment, the highest chance of succeeding in becoming an official LEGO product.


So what do you think? Will they make it?
  • Make an educated guess for each of the projects. Look at how many days to collect supporters are left and how many votes they have received so far.
  • How can we improve this guess? What can we calculate to determine whether they are going to reach 10k votes on time or not?
  • Can we know when are they expected to get to the threshold?

ACTO I

What can you see in the following picture? Name three thing in the picture.

  • This lighthouse is located in Zahara de los Atunes (Cádiz). Let us calculate its height. Is the picture above a good one? Why/why not? What do we need? 


  •  We need some reference in order to calculate the height of the lighthouse. Is the picture above a good one? Why/why not?

  • We need the reference to be located at the same plane than the lighthouse, otherwise it would be distorted... Can you calculate the height of the lighthouse now?
  • Write a guess that you think is too low. Write a guess too high. Write an accurate guess.
